A little background of the author!
J.R. Harrington is a reclusive author from a small town nobody’s heard of. It’s been writing for nine years and is enamored with writing in second person. It also scrapbooks, reads, and collages in its free time.
Here are the questions!
Claudia: What’s your story? How did you get where you are today?
J.R. Harrington: “My fifth grade teacher did this thing called “free write fridays” where we were given paper and allowed to write whatever we wanted. As the hyperliterate autistic kid of the class, my stories were always read aloud in the front of class. In sixth grade I moved across the country, and writing was my only solace.”
Claudia: What do you consider your achievements? If any!
J.R. Harrington: “I’ve finished four first drafts, volunteer as a blog writer and columnist for Studio Moone magazine, and have been published in numerous lit mags. I also won a contest through Vellichor, which I’m really hyped about since they’re one of the bigger magazines!”
Claudia: What are the best qualities of your writing/art style?
J.R. Harrington: “The originality of using 2nd person POV, I think. I’d also say my vocabulary and phrasing is pretty good. I like that my pieces have good mouthfeel when read aloud.”
Claudia: How has your writing/art affected yourself and/or others?
J.R. Harrington: “Well, my writing has helped me through a lot. I use it to process things that happen in my life. Like when I went to the psych ward, writing was the one thing that comforted me.”
Claudia: Have there been any drawbacks in your art/writing journey? How has that affected you?
J.R. Harrington: “A lot of the time I start new projects and never end up finishing them because I get a new idea. Which means I’ve never completed a second draf[t.]”
Claudia: What are your aspirations for future publication and/or plans, if any!
J.R. Harrington: “I’m going to be continuing to submit to lit mags when I have the time, and eventually compile my best short pieces into an anthology. I’m also working on multiple novels, but as stated before I struggle to stick with my longterm works.”
Sorry! Zine thanks J.R. Harrington so much for the time to talk to us about such a wonderful writing journey. We are so honoured to have you here!
