Interviewing Ananya Anand

A little background of the author!

Ananya Anand is a writer, UNESCO-LPA Youth Fellow, and first-year law student from Delhi, India. With a deep love for art, film, prose, music, and dance, she has made her mark across these artistic mediums through international publications, awards, and performances. When not immersed in the world of art, she is actively engaged in advocating for human rights and societal change.

Here are the questions!

Claudia: What’s your story? How did you get where you are today?

A. Anand“Growing up in a household that never ran out of stories to tell, whether based on their lived experiences or taken straight out of our folklore, It was inevitable for me to fall in love with the art of storytelling. Soon, by the age of four, I had began writing my own short stories and poetries. Now, at the age of nineteen, I find myself regularly indulging in various mediums and forms of art as a means of self-expression and gratitude.”

Claudia: What do you consider your achievements? If any!

A. Anand: “I like to think of my writing and art as introspective, with my goal always being for the observer to feel deeply seen and heard within the words or colours I use.”

Claudia: What are the best qualities of your writing/art style?

A. Anand: “I’m always truthful about my experience and I truly go deep into the messiness of my life. I speak in prose a lot LIKE ALOT my writing and strange metaphors and references to everything in media and everything in my life work there way in my writing.

Claudia: How has your writing/art affected yourself and/or others?

A. Anand: “My work has allowed me to untangle my feelings and thoughts in a manner that would not have been possible for me in this lifetime had I been deprived of these outlets. I feel so incredibly fortunate to be able to use my poems, my music, or my artworks as a mirror to see myself in, especially on days when my eyes simply fail to recognize my own reflection.

As for others, I have been very lucky to receive a warm reception for my work from both my loved ones and from strangers around the world. To them, I am always grateful for allowing my art to find a home within their hearts.

Claudia: Have there been any drawbacks in your art/writing journey? How has that affected you?

A. Anand: Some struggles with my mental health over the years have probably been the biggest drawbacks in my artistic journey, beyond the standard roadblocks of a busy life. It can be hard to see the pain you use as creative fuel on a good day turn into the very thing that absolutely prevents you from writing, dancing or creating art for months at a time, but I carry on.

Claudia: What are your aspirations for future publication and/or plans, if any!

A. Anand: “There’s this story I’ve had in my head for quite some time now, and if all goes well, I’ll have it fully fleshed out as my debut novel by the end of 2025. Touchwood!”
