a collection of poems.

By Lanie Raine

As The Darkness Sets

The darkness sets

The eyes get weary

Sun fades with the colors

of flames

Shivers go down the spine

Like hearing the fork

Brush against the board

Silence overcomes

The movement of the wind whispers

Reply

Put my phone on silent

I was used to you being quiet

You said you were just busy

When others get texts, but not me

I check my empty screen

Empty, just like your feelings for me

Should I claim defeat

I won’t miss much; apparently

          12 seconds

                    7 mintues

                             72  hours

No more waiting for a reply

The Pretty Girls

It’s not you that scares me

                                     It’s your talent

It’s not you that frightens me

It’s the way everyone loves you

It’s not you that intimidates me

                                                   It’s your Golden-locked hair and Sun-kissed skin

It’s not you that panics me

It’s the way I know I could never be you

You may be my best friend

                                                   But I still hate you
